Welcome to Nishi-sando Chaya, a delightful café nestled in the heart of Nikko, Tochigi, just a stone's throw away from the serene Ueno Toshogu Shrine. This charming little coffee shop is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee; it's a cozy retreat that offers an authentic experience infused with local culture and handmade crafts.

At Nishi-sando Chaya, coffee isn't just a beverage; it's an art form. Regulars rave about the exceptional quality of the coffee, with many calling it “some of the best in Japan.” The concoction is smooth and milky, yet it retains a rich coffee taste and aroma that dances on your palate. Whether you're in the mood for a classic café latte or are curious to try their expertly crafted cold brews, each sip promises to transport you to a world of flavor.

The ambiance of Nishi-sando Chaya is lovingly curated. Although it primarily serves takeout, the outdoor seating area offers a perfect nook to unwind and soak in the sun while savoring your drink. Imagine sitting under the gentle rays, surrounded by the intricate local crafts beautifully displayed throughout the shop. As Summer Wang mentioned in her review, the atmosphere here is wonderfully organized, creating an inviting space that feels like a warm embrace after a long day of exploring.

Your visit here is not just about coffee; it's an experience infused with authenticity! Wietse Vroom notes the unique charm of the multiple small buildings that comprise this café, allowing for a delightful sense of discovery. Browse through beautifully crafted local products while you await your order, making every moment spent here feel special.

While some have noted that indoor seating may be limited with the current focus on takeout, there’s a certain charm to enjoying your drink al fresco, especially considering the picturesque surroundings of Nikko. And if you happen to find yourself visiting during the colder months, Graham Barry suggests cozying up with a warm cup of coffee to warm your spirits amidst Nikko's winter chill.

In the words of Somie Aroundtheworlx, “This coffee store won’t disappoint you.” For anyone exploring the rich history and natural beauty of Nikko, Nishi-sando Chaya is a must-visit stop that perfectly blends quality coffee with local craftsmanship, creating an experience as rich as the beverages they serve. Don't miss out on this gem!

Properly one of the best coffee we had in Japan. The store is so cute with all the cute hand craft stuff you can buy. The coffee here is smooth and milky as mostly coffee in Japan. But still have nice coffee taste and aroma. If you are in the area, this coffee store won’t dissapointed you.

Stumbled upon this charming coffee shop just steps from Ueno Toshogu Shrine, and it was the perfect little find. Snagging an outdoor seat to bask in the sunlight while sipping on their delicious coffee made for a delightful moment of tranquility. Despite its small size, the place is wonderfully organized, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. I was also enchanted by the selection of local craft products on display – each item adding a unique touch to the shop's character. The coffee itself? Simply satisfying. A solid 5-star experience for the serene vibe and tasty brew.

Great place to have a coffee and a sweet snack after (or before, in between, ...) visiting the Nikko sights. Coffee tasted good. Despite other reviews, you can in fact sit inside. It's a group of 4 small buildings which I believe belong to the same business. You can order coffee in one and take a seat in another one of the little houses.

It's a take-out only branch of Nikko Coffee at the moment. The table and counter space is currently used to display local products. It's fun to browse, but Nikko winters are cold and most restaurants close for the low season so indoor seating would be preferable. They take coffee very seriously here, which you can taste. There are plenty of options including cold brew, espresso-based and drip. Lots of flavoured creations. No matcha.
